Message	demand situations (such as starting or that super low bass note) and must be fully replenished by the alternator at some point. Two batteries would allow you twice the reserve capacity. Basically, once your car is started, the alternator is expected to either provide ALL the power or recharge it later, otherwise you are going in the hole.
