| : Does it really matter which? And if so, what makes one better then the other? : I saw an article from July, 1997 discussing the X pipe versus H pipe on a Rustang (the engineers at Bazzani Exhaust have developed one for that car). The article was a bit vabue, so I called the engineers and talked to them about it. Theoretically, the X pipe allows exhaust gas to go to the pipe with the least resistanc at the time it travels down from the engine. This means less backpressure, and that will give you a bit more HP and some bottom end grunt. The Rustang article 'thought' they could see about 10 hp at the wheels. It must work if NASCAR teams are using this approach, which is what the Bazzani engineer told me..... The H pipe equalizes pressure - that's all. It doesn't scavenge any power like the X pipe does. An H pipe is better than equalizer tubes because it also has a resonator function to make the exhaust a bit quieter. X pipes don't, although at least one design puts resonators on both of the exhaust tubes after the X. When I rebuild my exhaust, I'll change the resonator out for a home made X pipe and see... Hope this helps!
