Message Trying to bring the monster back to life. My Z sat for so long it developed fuel and fuel level sender issues. The pump became under-powered. It would not push fuel past 20 PSI. On top of that I had a massive fuel leak once I got it started as well as a bad fuel level sending unit.

Here are some pics of the problem and solution for fixing the fuel sending unit.

Pics of the OEM TT fuel pump unit. Nothing new to a lot of you I'm sure.

I had a massive fuel leak at the front fuel rail cross-over line. Took out the old, put in a new.

All back together except for one of the intake hose clamps. Still looking for the nut that fell from it :(

My fuel level sending unit was bad. I couldn't find the resistor itself, but I did find another fuel pump assembly that used the same type. Below is a picture of the stock fuel pump assembly next to an assembly for a 1986-1993 Nissan D21 Pickup truck. These units are readily available from Amazon and the one I bought cost $78 (see link below). These are NOT compatible direct replacements for our assemblies but a couple parts that come with them are. They are the fuel level sending unit and the included O-ring.

The sending unit in our Zs are physically the same as well as having the same resistance value of 0 -100 Ohms. A new resistor will have the values below.

At the full level.

At the empty level.

As you can see in these two pictures, my bad sender read at around 7000 Ohms either way. Sometimes the values would jump around in the meg ohms across the scale.

Here are pics of the physical sender.

In order to use it you only need to swap the level arm by removing the arm and then the clip that holds it.

The O-ring that comes with the new unit is a direct replacement as well. Here it is still in the bag next to an O-ring purchased from Z1.

Z1 O-ring on top for size comparison.

So it appears that the resistance values in the FSM for the main and sub fuel level sending units is incorrect. The resistance values that you see for a 2+2 are the values you will see in a TT. While working with the gauge clusters and fuel gages, I found that the fuel gauge will read half full with a value around 30-33 Ohms.

Amazon link for the 1986-1993 Nissan D21 Pickup truck fuel pump assembly with O-ring.

Hope this helps anyone else that may be having these problems.
