I have this weird issue with my 1991 TT 5-speed. When I press the clutch down it will start turning over the engine (i.e. engaging starter) this is W/O the key in. It will not completely start the engine unless the key is in the on position. Also when I switch gears it will grind the starter everytime if i press the clutch in too far. It's like theres a place in the clutch path that engages starter that's getting engaged everytime the clutch is pressed down. Is there a short somewhere or did something fail? Has anyone had this happen? First things to check? I'm not sure if this adds anything but it has a viper alarm system but I doubt thats part of this problem. I can post a video. Also, is there a workaround like i could start the engine then pull fuse so the starter doesn't engage?
