Message They are all in the same condition these days, failed solder joints and dead capacitors, dead power transistors from solder joint failure.
There are methods to rebuild these units for higher current capability and better reliability, actually conversion of NA units to TT spec is possible.
The internal circuit board is identical between NA and TT units, the unit was upgraded to a different capacitor value/arrangement in the later cars(1993+).
I agree with Bernie though, check your fuel pump wiring for fried or corroded wiring/melted bulkhead passthrough on the fuel pump plate first.
Also, make sure your body/firewall and engine/bellhousing ground wiring at the battery harness is in good condition as sometimes high resistance there will make current pass through other components which have a lower resistance to ground.
Current GMC trucks have a huge issue with this as the body to frame ground braid disintegrates and everything grounds through module wiring, cooking them.
