Message	programming, and machine/material setup time. Unless someone is willing to pay $500 to $1000 for a single spring, any part making venture will need to be run in quantity to spread those fixed costs over as many parts as possible to get the per part pricing low enough to allow for middle-man markups and the final retail price that the public is willing to pay.
