I opened my fuel system up and went to look for leaks by pressurizing with the fuel pump. Had to turn the ignition on a few times to get pressure up (without starting the engine). I don't think it can monitor pressure. I think there's just a sort of timer to briefly run the pump to bring the system pressure up before starting. It should be enough if the system is already full of fuel.
