Message	teeth worn to the point they won't engage the starter. I just had the exact symptoms, checked the flywheel (it was OK), and ended up replacing the starter. It fixed the problem. I didn't check the solenoid, but I believe you can have problems with the motor itself, that will cause the issues you describe. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge than I can comment on that.
