transmission, which is normal. However, in the picture, the notch does look enlarged. Somebody probably pried really hard on it when removing the transmission and gouged the metal a little. Shouldn't be a problem, but nothing should be leaking out of it. If there is something leaking, it'll be either engine oil (rear main engine seal) or gear oil (front transmission seal). To replace either seal, the transmission will need to be removed.
