Message It will be a bit of a pain your first time.

My answers, or preferences

1) I would disconnect the hydraulic lines and remove the pump for clearance (it will get tight in there). You will also likely remove the alternator altogether, you have to pull the wiring off it regardless.

2) There are a lot of bolts for it, there are two mounts (more of one assembly of two pieces) that you have to unbolt.

3) Depends on if your system is charged, if you are keeping the AC I would remove the compressor from the engine and leave the system sealed.

4) Also from memory... you have to remove the compressor to remove the bracket, but I would remove both. The idler pulley vs the upper radiator support causes clearance issues.

I doubt the splines twisted, but you probably have a small lip on them where they were mated while driving. You could probably use a dead blow hammer to push it into the trans more or do what I do, make an 'X' out of bungee cords where the front of the DS will be when you pull the engine. Leave it bolted to the diff and just let it fall onto the bungee cords.

Yes you can do that or replace the axle all together.
