Usually you will see an oil leak in that area from the oil supply tube to the turbo that runs behind the manifold/turbo joint on the passenger side. Corrosion of the oil supply tube, especially the heat insulated foil covered later part number. It can be replaced in situ, not a fun job though. Otherwise, leak may be coming down the head from the exhaust valve cover or a cracked PCV hose and smoking on the manifold. If you indeed have oil pushing out of the manifold/turbo joint at a gasket leak, you have a bigger issue than the smoke, your motor is throwing oil out the exhaust.
