Subject	Starter Grinds.... what gives?!?!

Message	During the cold winter temps, my starter began to grind. If it got even colder, it would just spin. It got worse and I removed the starter, to find a bad Bendix gear. I luckily had another OEM starter in my stash of parts, so I installed that with great success. No more spinning or grinding. Until today, this starter grinded 3 times before finally turning the car over properly. WHAT CAN I CHECK???? I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, which is ultimately causing starter issues. THANKS!!
