We use it when we have to weld or braze in really tight spots and it's up to par for heat controls even with fiberglass and plastic. You should give it a try.

How about drilling the stud out and then taping the hole

The studs are just molded in. Heat it and pull then replace. (n/m)

Yes you can cause damage. Use did discretion when heating.
