Message They will read the same number on the down pipe and in the test pipe. The only difference is that if mounted on the down pipe they Will burn out a lot quicker because of the heat. The reading will come a little faster because it is in the closest point to the motor of the exhaust.
But for safety reasons it should be in the test pipe. Last thing you'll want is to loose a sensor while driving.
