Message	[ http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-300zx-z32-shifter-removal.html ] I found this. Look at pictures #3 and #4. One or both dust covers have more than likely come loose. The lower dust cover must be snapped in place to the metal lower lip on the hole that surrounds the shifter. If not,it comes loose when you move the shifter into the 2nd and 4th position,letting in transmission noise. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes!
