Mine sounded similar when (I think) the input shaft bearing went out one mine. You can verify by first spinning the rear wheels by hand, then disconnecting driveshaft then half shafts. IMO the diffs seem overall pretty rock solid, so I would just buy a used on the cheap and put new fluid in it and keep going. That's what I did, and I've since been to a couple of track days and more no issues.
