Subject	Rear wheel bearings, how tight/loose should they be?

Message	I have my rear hubs off and the bearings turn by hand with a little resistance but smoothly if that makes sense, they certainly don't spin freely (when mounted the tire spins easily and freely when up in the air). Is that normal or do they require replacement? It's from a '95 N/A w/ 110k miles, haven't had the car up to any sort of speed so I don't know if they are noisy or not. Thanks.
