Message as long as it's even across all cylinders. Estimates I've seen on NA engines suggest a 5% drop in power output for each ratio point loss. Of course, this only applies within a limited range. If your compression drops too far, power starts to fall off fast.

If your effective static ratio is 5:1, you'll see a much bigger efficiency boost by going to 7:1 than you would going from 10:1 to 12:1.
