It fits the stock downpipes, it's (to my knowledge) the most affordable upgrade from stock, it's the next size up as far as a compromise between spool and more hp are concerned. If you're willing to afford the JWT 530 kit or the 550 kit and 5-bolt downpipes then there's no reason to do the 500's IMO. THAT would be the significantly advanced turbo technology you speak of, it's the smallest ball bearing turbo with the stock type flange. If there was a GTX version of the JWT 530 then that would probably be the ultimate turbo for response with a significant amount of power. Garrett doesn't make that though, reason being, there's not really a high demand for it. If I wasn't chasing 10's in the 1/4 I would've stayed with auto stock turbos to be honest, there's nothing wrong with them, they're well made and well sized for our motors.
