Message	out too soon in one of your suspected holes then move on to the next suspicion, but keep in mind the reduced penetration of the hole by the bolt due to the thickness of whatever it is that it's supposed to be retaining. The driver side of the balance-tube has the acorn-nut and two bolts holding it down and IIRC one of the bolts is longer than the other, but like I said you'll need to verify.
