as the engine was turned over the fuel was pushed thru the exhaust valves resulting raw fuel smell. Could the fuel have been "pushed" enough past the intake valves as well, into the plenum? The only fly in the ointment is the engine vacuum, that seems like it would force it thru the cylinder and exhaust valves. If you cranked it without the engine running then it seems like this (fuel being pushed into plenum) would explain it. I can't think of any other possibilities. How does that sound?
