Starter Woes posted by Retro-Cow on December 21, 2014 at 07:37 PM

I recently had my tranny out and ended up needing a new starter at the same time. Got everything back together and the car wouldn't start. Kept on giving what i thought was a loud click and made me think I had a bad ground. After some investigating I ended up noticing that the shield on the starter was actually touching the mounting connection on the starter and shorting everything out. The piece on the new starter was slightly larger than the old and the shield ended up touching it. The short actually welded the two pieces together since it was what I am assuming was copper. Took the starter and shield apart and just made a little room with a hammer. Put the shield back on and installed the starter, afterwards the car started right up. Not sure if this is the problem but figured I'd throw it out there since it happened to me. Good luck.
