Most important that the caster is even from side to side (and camber and toe are within spec also). If caster is uneven it wont cause wear on tires, but the car wont handle as well and will tend to drift to one side. You want equal caster on both sides so it steers straight. Now, if you can only make it equal by deviating drastically from spec, then there is something else wrong - ie car has probably been wrecked. Bad idea to adjust beyond the range suggested by the manufacturer of the part, as this creates an unsafe condition.
