The space where the leak is coming is where the hatch glass meets the hatch frame (which is sealed by a black weatherstripping/trim material that extends around the glass and is supposed to form a water tight seal). At the bottom left hand corner of the hatch ... it seems that the weatherstripping/trim has peeled up a bit allowing water to get into my trunk via the panels on the inside of the trunk. I've tried the black tape but it doesn't really work that effectively. Nonetheless, your idea sounds good to locate a possible leak, unfortunately in my case it's not coming from hatch or door closing. Any further advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
:You have to first determine where the space is that's allowing water in. I've put a light coat of grease on the gasket or mating surface, then closed the (door or hatch), then looked for gaps in the grease left on the opposite surface. ... then I've put layers of electrical tape under the gasket, to lift it towards the mating surface and eliminate the gap.
