case you were warned so be prepared to get an engine or rebuild this one. I doubt tick, knock are a result of the coil or CAS. You state the tick is from the top that could be valve lifters. You do not state where the knock is coming from that is the more concern noise. Start with the basics: codes, compression test, fuel pressure, spark, vacuum leaks. Then OHM the injectors (10 - 14 Ohms is spec) and inspect their connectors for corrosion and other connectors. Then sensors: coolant temp, MAS, TPS, electircal grounds ...... Clean connectors and use dielectric grease in connector before reconnecting.
