| 4th gear usually has broken "insert springs" which is what pre loads the bulk ring to the gear face. When the break it no longer preloads the syncro so the gear never speeds up to speed of the mainshaft causing the grind. There is an update for 5th gear grind which involves changing the hub and sleeve to cure it on the early trans. If other gears are grinding the trans is probably close to worn out causing to much gear end play which leads to grinding. Syncros rarely ware out in our trans.
