Subject	How is power steering connected to ABS?

Message	I have had my ABS 'idiot' light on for some time. I have found it extremely difficult to extract any DTC'S [diagnostic trouble codes] from my computer [behind the passenger seat]. Now, intermittently, the light goes off, and my steering assist is somehow activated. It will continue until I shut off the engine, and then restarting it, it will again malfunction. The ABS light will come on, and my steering assist will disappear. It is not a BIG deal driving without the assist, but I would dearly love to have my ABS back again. Can anyone give me at least a hint as to this 'connection' between the two? Weird, I know, but true!
