Don't have to prime them just make sure you have plenty of fluid in the converter. Does seem like a pressure problem.
Draning fluid then refilling has in some cases cases pieces to become clogged in transmission. I assume your fluid was pink and not dark or a burnt color before changing.Dropping the valve body and doing a circuit test will give you more info, but the slipping in all gears is a real problem.
