Message I have a 1991ZX TT. For the last few weeks, upon start up, the engine initially ran at about 1,000 RPM and within about 5 to 10 seconds the RPMs would drop to about 500 or less RPMs and wanted to stall unless I kept some accelerator on until it warmed up to operating temperature. At operating temperature, the car ran good at about 800 rpm. I squirted some WD 40 (tech answer) to try to free up the air regulator, but this did not do much.

Recently, after the car warmed up (still low idle after initial startup), the idle started fluctuating between about 700 to 900 rpm in a cyclic manner within about every 5 to 10 seconds. So, I decided to clean the throttle bodies. As indicated in the Tech Section, I disconnected the negative battery terminal before cleaning. When I was finished, after initial startup, the car idled at about 1,000 and never dropped below this until the car warmed up. However, when the car warmed up, the idle flctuated between 1,000 to 1,200 after warming up. As indicated in the Tech Section, I then proceeded to adjust the idle by removing the AAC connector and turning the screw clockwise. I was able to reduce the idle to about 750 to 950 RPMs with the idle screw essentially closed all the way. In addition, the idle was still fluctuating between 1,000 to 1,200 RPMs. I did not check the voltage on the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), but with the car running, moving the TPS did change the idle slightly, but not below the 750 to 900 rpm - only to higher RPMs. I assumed that the TPS is O.K.? Will the idle lower with time by the ECU? What is the cause of the idle fluctuation? Do I need to reset my ECU? Thanks for your help
