Subject	sudden drop in vacuum?

Message	Hey all... yesterday, out of the blue, my car goes from about 18.5 in at idle to about 16.5. It has not affected the idle apparently as it still seems to idle and run fine. I did some reading on here last night and saw something I'd never thought of, the brake booster or check valve. So, I went back out and started it up, and I noticed that if I pump the brakes up hard with the motor running the vacuum drops even further, and the needle on the boost guages is kind of dancing around. I didn't notice any additional stiffness in the brake pedal when driving yesterday. Would the check valve for the brake booster cause these symptoms? Thanks...
