zero deflection...the point of my post was to ask if i'm out of spec (<1/4"), is it still safe to tighten if the belt is squealing? Right now I'm at spec and for now, knock on wood, with the new belt on there are no problems. i was thinking that i'd allow for some belt stretch and turn the tensioner bolt a bit again once the squeal picked up.my belts aren't disintegrating, they're tearing...somehow it's jumping out of the grooves and getting caught in the other moving belts. i'll tighten it slightly if it starts to squeal, and if i keep having trouble i'll take the belts off and inspect the grooves. makes sense that the squealing could be caused by wear on the sides of the grooves since that's where the belts get their friction. i wouldn't be surprised if the pulley is just worn since aluminum is so soft...i'm being lazy by not searching before i ask, but what's the expected life of the U/R pulleys?
