Called U/R to find out exactly what belt they recommended, which was Gates K040390. Pulleys are installed and aligned correctly, and I personally replaced the alternator belt again yesterday. On another TT'ers advice I bought an automotive stethoscope to find out if any bearings were going...nada. It is only the alternator belt. Is possible for BOTH bolts on the tensioner lock and mounting bracket to strip? I'm getting less than 200 miles per belt these days. Same track pattern...new belt on, ok for a few days, squeals, then gone (torn, not burned or worn). I haven't been tightening it every time it squeals for fear of over-tightening. I'll tighten it to what I think is the perfect tension, just about 90 degrees... So that leads to my question again...new belts have gone on, can I safely tighten the alternator belt each time it squeals without putting the water pump bearings in danger? (water pump has less than 5k on it) In addition, can the mounting bracket bolt strip and what's the solution if it has?
