It CAN be done with the engine in the vehicle. People say it's going to take a lot longer, and you will probably shout every obscenity in your vocabulary; probably a few times. On the other side, I have just pulled my engine and dropped the transmission. It's a big job too. Plus if you are on your original wiring harness, you better: A: Plan on spending $400 on a new harness, or B: Spending $50-100 on new connectors. Because you are going to break the sh*t out of them. Once the engine is out of the car, turbos are a piece of cake. But going through engine pull process I know there isn't enough room for an infant to turn a wrench. Basically both ways suck, but both are possible. You can choose which way ya want to take.
