Message you have a high and a low setting which means you can effectively weld two material thicknesses. When it globs up, the material you're trying to weld is too thick. When it burns thru, the material is too thin. Decent welding can be done with flux core wire if you don't mind splatter. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 140 amps with variable settings. The newest Lincoln and Miller welders have automatic wire feed speeds. You just need to set the amperage for the appropriate material thickness.

On the wire that came with the welder, people have stated that the wire comes coated with oil which has an effect on the weld. Buying a new spool that is oil free may help.
