Message	control system it can be put into diagnostic mode to open various blend doors, valve that lets coolant into the core, etc. The car's coolant temperature sensor (not the same thing as the dash temperature guage sensor) can cause issues with the auto-climate system if not working right (might do similiar for manual climate systems - not sure?). Sometimes due to age, the coolant sensor connector wire breaks. I'd follow the other suggestions posted here - but just mentioning as another thing to look over....
