| There are products that exist solely for the purpose of cleaning and sealing a gas tank. I agree with them - your tank is probably fine (it has a factory sealant to prevent rust). But in the tiny chance it isn't (or if someone has a real tank rust problem down the line and encounters this thread in search), I used the KBS Coatings Gold Class tank sealing kit on my Datsun which sat for over 2 decades with a nearly empty tank. You cannot just use a product like pool acid which will strip the sealant from the tank without reapplying some kind of coating - that's a sure way to make it rust prematurely.
