| filter can't shoot that down. How many miles on car? Put a vacuum gage on the engine and report the reading and any needle fluctuations. Here is a link to help interpret the gage [ http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/vacuum/ ] At idle my engine reads 20.5" Hg with no needle fluctuations and 1"Hg higher at 2000 rpm in neutral. Do an oil spot test on a white business card and post the results and tell us how many miles on the oil. Here is a link on interpertation : [ http://www.acustrip.com/specs/onedrop.html ] [ http://members.themotoroilevaluator.com/index.php?id=162 ] These visual tests are very helpful as the oil ages.Just keep a record. Have you ever cut oprn your filter after an oil change? Consider doing that to inspect what is on the paper element. Hope no noticable metal. Get a magnet when doing this to aid in scaning the paper element.
