| Might tell you something if there are pieces of crap coming out. You should be able to turn the crank with like 10-15 ft lb of torque no problem. My guess is that if the timing belt appears tensioned, it's not broken! Normally that might mean the heads are OK. But depending on what broke you could have damaged one or both. I broke a rod in a non-interference engine on the highway once. Though most of everything was ejected out the bottom of the oil pan and block, the seperated piston was allowed free movement up and down of course, since the rod was no longer present, and the crank smashed the hell out of it and forced it up in to the head damaging the valves, etc. Who knows what you will find. But I'm sure it's not good news! I'd just pull the motor and take it apart...but it sounds like you're not that interested in fixing it...
