Message This is a '90 300ZX TT, Apex Boost control, downpipes, testpipes, new pintleless 615cc injectors, JWT ECU reprogrammed for new injectors, all installed about 400 miles ago. Car has had no driveability problems, but it's outrageously fast (which could be a driveability problem in the wrong hands). Although cold start idle seemed a little high, 1800 rpms for 10 seconds, then 1200 or so till warm. One morning I start it from cold, 30 degrees outside. Starts fine as usual, runs about 1800 rpms for 10 seconds, dies immediately. Dies like you shut it off. Will not restart, no sign of any cylinder firing. Absolutely nothing, but will crank OK.
ECU says bad coolant temp sensor, and Cam angle sensor. Replace coolant temp sensor with new OEM. Same problem. Same codes. Remove CAS and when turned manually, can hear injectors clicking, intermittently. Check CAS voltages and they are withing spec, but replace CAS anyway with a new Nissan CAS (made by Mitsubishi - ugh!). Check #1 cylinder with timing light to try to start (fingers crossed) and retime new CAS. First no spark signals, next try, a few signals, next try one single signal.
ECU still reads the original codes, 11 and 13 , even with new parts installed. Disconnect the ECU for five minutes, then hook it back up. One cylinder fires one time. Do same again. One cylinder fires one time, that's all. Then nothing. Crank, no fire.
I can't confirm yet if the car ever had the PTU recall done. Car is remote (where it died in a garage), so can't check it until 1 800 NISSAN1 opens up Monday morning.
One more item, engine was "degreased" by a competent mechanic when he did the timing belt replacesment 600 miles wogo. Shortly after that is when #4 and #6 injectors started to fail with serious corrosion on all the connectors, which resulted in new fuel rails, injectors and connectors.
I'm wondering WTF, but thinking it may be a bad PTU. Any help would be most appreciated.
