Message which feed into the ECU (see below). Its operation is dependent upon a combination of either one, a couple, or
all inputs to trigger it; as far as I know, no one has publicly admitted to figuring out the algorithm used by the
ECU to control it. I need to make this a project someday.

Your situation where disconnecting the solenoids eliminates your noise may be that you have found a threshold of
inputs to the ECU programming where the VTC is cycling on and off in an uncontrolled manner and creating the
noise you describe.

Or,

It may be that one or more of the five sensors is malfunctioning and creating a loophole for this scenario to occur.
Regardless, because of all the variables used to control the VTC, I don't think it's safe to assume the VTC solenoids
will always be 100% energized under this particular situation.
