I had this problem a few months ago. This is very intermittent. My auto transmission does not shift out of 1st gear. The RPMs would go up but the car will not accelerate past 20mph. I stop trying to accelerate after about 4000rpm. I'll turn the car off and back on and it will return to normalThis has only happened to me 2 other times about 2000 miles in between. After the 2nd time, I switched out the TCU. It did not happen from July until today (About 1000 miles in between.) So this tells me that it is not the TCU. Does anyone have any idea what it is? It just came to me that it might be the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAS). I had to replace this after it was damaged in a frontal car accident. I think maybe the connection may be loose and may be causing the car to go into safe or limp mode? But I think a MAS misconnection will limit your RPMs to 2500 and will not allow it to go to 4000 rpm like I have been able to do in these situations. And why is it that restarting the car will make the problem go away? Does anyone have any ideas? This is a 1993 Nissan 2+2 NA with only 57,000 miles. Recently replaced tranny fluid, spark plugs, water pump and of course the MAS. I'd appreciate any help or comments. Thank you.
