Message	the strip and the hatch. On the backside, the hook is only about 1/4 inch tall. Just long enough to end prior to the horizontal plane of the hatch where the rubber strip mounts to the hatch, via the screws. The bend of the J is tight enough that it does not cause any disformation of the rubber trim, and stays totally snug around the hatch's metal edge. LaterZ, BCs300z
