Subject	need help on possible blown head gasket or thermostat

Message	I didnt notice but my car heated all the way to the top a few months ago. I pulled over and shut the car off. I was low on antifreeze. I had water so i put that in the car. I waited awhile till the car cooled down. i ran find all the way home next day i started it up and when it was warming up it started idling funny going up and down. I am afraid i might have broke my temp thermostat or worst my have blown a head gasket. Anybody ever do this and what ended up being the issue.
