| You shouldn't have to turn the key to start in order to prime the fuel pump. Modern fuel injected cars prime the fuel lines when the key is turned to on. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds and also see your fuel pressure rise to 43 psi (possibly more if you still have your anti vapor-lock system working). Since you've tested your drain back valve on the pump itself, and the fuel pump apparently works once the car is turned to start, I'd say either one of two things is the culprit. 1) Your fuel pump controller needs to be replaced. 2) Your cars wiring got screwed up along the way. Although the fuel pressure drop is indicative of a fuel leak. Check your injector seals and injectors as a start. But the fuel pump should prime the lines without having to turn the key to start.
