Most install under the spark plug in place of the spark plug washer. You would also need one for each cylinder unlike needing on one per bank for EGT's. I could not understand your first sentence but it sounds like the fire you had on the EGT sensors were beyond there range. Try to heat them both evenly to a lower temp and see if they both read the same. It wouldn't matter if one reads a higher maximum temp just as long as they read the same at any given temp below there max
