Message 1 is just taking weight off the chassis to lower curb weight. The 2nd is reduction of moving weight, or weight that has kinetic properties. This is also known as reciprocating mass, or moving mass. I am sure there is a more technical explenation, but this is a very premature explaination.

By eliminitating reciprocating mass, the gains are much greater, such as ligheter wheels, rotors, driveshafts, clutch/flywheel combos, engine internals and so forth. These actually can make huge gains in the area of weight reductions.
