Message this problem sounds similar to one I had with a fuel pump relay. It would work randomly when it started failing. I don't know what makes them do it, but when relay's fail they can act really wierd.

The biggest thing is to listen for the fuel pump when you turn the key to on but before you turn it to start. If you don't hear the fuel pump prime, it is not going to start. FI cars have no tolerance for loss of fuel pressure - there is no partial running like with a carbed car.

With my car, once I realized this, when it stalled I would keep switching the key from off to on, listening for the fuel pump to prime. If it didn't make that whirring noise, I would key back to off, wait a second, then back to on. No sense in wearing out the starter if there is no fuel. Once I heard it prime it would start right up normally.

Not saying for sure, but that is where I would start.
