option 1: switch connected to 12 volt when triggered circuit and nothing. therefore it is an open circuit, so no light. option 2: switch in center position: which completes circuit between 12 v when triggered circuit (open door, etc) and light bulb which is grounded on other side. option 3: switch connected to bulb which is grounded on other side and 12 v constant. circuit is always complete when switch is in this position, provided no blown fuses etc. somehow, the normally isolated bulb portion is getting 12 v constant no matter what circuit is selected, possibly due to a frayed wire, broken connection, etc.
