Are you using one of the diagnostic software i.e Conzult? If so what is the A/F Alpha when running lean? If it is high (above 105) it means the ECU sees the lean condition and is trying to adjust for it, so ECU is doing what it is suppose to.
Have you checked the O2 sensors?
