Message :both the ignition relay and the ECCS relay. There should be constant 12volts power on the 2 of the pins on each of those 2 relays..So check all the fuses under the hood with a DMM or test light at the engine fuse block where the relays are!

confusion is beginning to lift: I noticed the car sputtered sometimes prior to all this. also, it started up then coughed then died. popped once or twice, then no start. smells of gas. more reading shows possible PTU failure. I'm checking w/Nissan the vin against recall records to see if PTU replaced under recall program or not...will report back. It did run fine immediately after changes and all fuses I could find (anywhere, engine, under dash, etc) were ok. thanks, good to know what the orange does.
